Are Yoga Socks for You?
71
Our feet are used to being squished into pretty little high heeled shoes and running shoes while our poor toes can't ever separate naturally as they are meant, to give us balance and movement.
Toe socks separate each toe naturally, which then allows the muscles in the feet to work properly and strengthen. This helps get the blood flowing and circulating, helping with proper balance, stability and body alignment.
If you are new or experienced in practicing yoga you might want to try non slip yoga socks as they give you more stability with the nonslip sole, especially if you have fear of slipping out of a pose and injuring yourself. Socks for yoga practice also help keep your feet warm, especially in the winter at the beginning of a practice when your muscles are cold. You won't even realize you are wearing them after awhile.
For those of you who do not like the idea of being barefoot in public places, as yoga or Pilates requires, then your mind can be at ease wearing your yoga toe socks. Some people have enjoyed wearing them so much they leave them on at home instead of slippers. And believe it or not, people even walk, hike and run in them!
There are also toeless yoga socks for those of you that like your toes having some fresh air. You can even get pedicures with them on!
Yoga Gloves
Let's not forget our hands which are just as important in yoga and pilates. Yes, there are yoga gloves as well. They have half finger styles which allow the ends of your fingers to still be exposed for sensitivity. These gloves give you grip for using equipment and stability on the mat and floor. Yoga socks and gloves together can be used in place of a yoga mat. Now, you can travel with a pair of yoga socks and gloves and not have to worry about lugging around your yoga mat.
If you are ordering your gloves online here's how to measure for the right size.
Measure width of palm from the base of your little finger to the base of your index finger.
6.5 - 7.5 cm (or) 2 1/2 - 3 inch - you wear a SMALL glove
7.5 - 8.5 cm (or) 3 - 3 3/8 inch - you wear a MEDIUM glove
8.5 - 9.5 cm (or) 3 3/8 - 3 3/4 inch - you wear a LARGE glove

How interesting Felicia. I'd never heard of yoga socks but I do have some non slip socks (not for yoga) and I swear by them.
Thanks for sharing.
Yoga socks emphasize the purpose of our toes when doing the routine. When doing yoga in a gym, mat should still be used because we never know the germs lurking around the place.
I had never heard of yoga socks before I read this page, what a great idea. When I went to yoga in the past my feet were often cold.
I have wanted a pair of yoga socks and yoga gloves for a long time. I love doing yoga but I always end up slipping! I keep hinting at my husband to buy them for me... but maybe I will just have to go out and buy them for myself!

I agree -- yoga socks and gloves eliminate the use of a mat! Not only that, there are a few new studios where I live that have special flooring which does not require yoga mats but rather the yoga socks and gloves. They're great!
